Tips to Prevent Consumer Fraud at Your Retail Outlet
Support consistent verification, protect customer information, and direct concerns through established partner channels.

Retail teams need a consistent approach to customer information and suspicious transactions. Written procedures are more useful than guesses based on a customer’s appearance or behavior.
Follow established verification procedures
Use the verification and transaction steps provided by your business and applicable program. Ask your account contact to clarify an unfamiliar request before proceeding. Avoid inventing additional data-collection requirements at the counter.
Limit and protect customer information
The FTC’s business information-security guide recommends understanding what information a business holds, keeping only what it needs, and protecting that information. Review your collection, access, retention, and disposal practices with the people responsible for them.
Give employees a clear escalation path
Tell staff who to contact when a transaction or request needs review. For Okinus program questions, use Okinus Hub, your established account contact, or call 800-472-1334 for routing assistance.
Use the appropriate secure channel for account or identity documents. Do not send them through a general inquiry email or chat.
Verify changes through known contacts
If someone asks you to change payment or account instructions, confirm the request through your established contact path before acting.
